Liposuction

What is liposuction?

Many women manage to stay in shape, but still have areas of fat that seem impossible to shift, no matter how much they exercise or diet. Those areas include the chin, arms, hips, tummy, thighs and buttocks. Liposuction can permanently solve this annoying problem simply by removing the offending fatty deposits. It’s important to say that liposuction is designed to sculpt the body, not help you lose weight and unfortunately it does not get rid of cellulite either.

Why have liposuction?

If you are of a normal body weight but find you have stubborn areas of fat, liposuction offers a solution. Even so, the decision to go ahead with surgery needs careful consideration. We would strongly encourage you to chat through any doubts you might have with one of our consultant surgeons or a member of our team of friendly advisors before you commit to treatment. These advisors are here to help answer any questions you have, without applying any kind of sales pressure, so that you can be 100% confident with your decision if you do eventually proceed with surgery.

Your liposuction operation

Your chosen consultant surgeon will make a neat cut in the relevant area and insert a tube which is connected to a vacuum pump. The tube is carefully manoeuvred to break up and remove the unwanted fat cells. The cut will then be stitched and bandaged for you. The operation will normally be done under a general anaesthetic although, if only a small amount of fat is to be removed, a local anaesthetic may be used instead.

Recovery

After your operation, you should be able to go home the same day or perhaps the day after. To give yourself a bit of extra protection, you will need to wear an external corset for a while if the liposuction is around that particular area of the body. You will be asked to return to hospital five to ten days after the operation to have your stitches removed. We’d recommend you take a week off work to rest at home and give your body the chance to recover properly. Strenuous activity of any kind will need to be avoided for a few weeks after that. You should expect some swelling, tenderness and bruising after the operation, but this will soon pass and you can use painkillers to ease any discomfort. You’ll be able to notice the difference in your shape as soon as the swelling goes down, but it may take up to six months for the area to settle completely.

Cost

There’s nothing worse than unexpected charges that you don’t find out about until after the event, and that’s why we make sure you know the full cost of your surgery before you make the decision to proceed. Our inclusive packages cover all the hospital charges for your stay, your consultant’s fees for the operation and one-follow-up consultation.
